KILLERS OF THE EARLY MORNING
SINGLE AND VIDEO OUT NOW
Killers Of The Early Morning is now available on all streaming platforms and available for purchase on Bandcamp. The music video is now live on YouTube, click below to watch.
Over the course of several months last summer, Beth Ann McDowell made a conscious decision to return to her roots in complex, rich lyrics, and giving more depth to her songwriting as she began to work on her album, “The Sim Is Real.” In tune with that came the natural gravitation toward recording an album in an organic way, with session musicians in a recording that captured the spirit of the moment all at once. Her first single off of the album, “Killers Of The Early Morning”, captures the sort of eerie dream-like vibe that permeates through the entire record. With unquestionably dark lyrics, the song recollects the common experience most of us have lived: giving all that we have to give, and it is still not enough. Produced by R. Walt Vincent who has worked with such greats as Liz Phair and Pete Yorn, the single is a testament to McDowell’s willingness to both evolve and return to what she truly loves: songwriting.
The single has been featured on A&R Music website, Music Arena GH, Indie YFM, and Phoenix FM radio's Resurrection hosted by Paul Golder. Other artists in this episode include Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party, and Radiohead founder Thom Yorke's new project, The Smile. The video has nearly 37,000 views in two weeks.
MUSIC VIDEO DIRECTED BY NICO SANTUCCI
Nico Santucci who directed "Sarogeto" which received the Grand Jury Award for Best Impact Feature Film at the TMIF Awards in 2021 and screened at the Cannes Film Festival shot and directed the music video for McDowell's new single, "Killers Of The Early Morning." The two collaborated on the idea after discussing the film "Neon Demon", and the idea that one can give everything they have to someone or something but it is still not enough and at times it feels one has to give up their soul. With post-production work from Billy Bragg who has worked as a cinematographer and editor for years after attending UCLA, and the final video edit by McDowell herself who directed and shot short films in Bologna Italy that were screened at various film festivals, the video is both haunting and beautiful. It is an attempt to show a sort of dissociative reality after one has been traumatized, and the attempt to rid oneself of that reality.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
A musical traveler through time and space
Beth Ann McDowell is an indie singer-songwriter hailing from the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Minnesota. Her music has ranged from psych to synth pop and her most current project, her second LP out in Spring of 2022, is a return to her roots: indie rock and a nod to the decade that raised her, the 90's. Recorded in a session with local musicians from Minnesota, produced by R. Walt Vincent who has worked with some of indie's greats including Liz Phair, Pete Yorn, and Tommy Keene.
The songstress spent her formative years in Italy and worked as a vocalist and keyboardist for the band Addamanera on their album Un Uomo Che Si Pensava Quell’Altro. During her time in Italy, Beth also collaborated with the band Mariposa and the founders of the label Trovarobato. She worked with artists Enrico Gabrielli and Sergio Giusti, along with 72 other musicians, on an experimental documentary called UPM - Unita’ di produzione musicale, which was shown at various film festivals.
McDowell released her debut album, Symbol of Love, in 2012, and her vinyl release at 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis was highly regarded by the underground music scene with openers such as Jeremy Nutzman, known as Velvet Negroni, Andrew Broder (PEOPLE, Jenny Lewis) and Casey Deming and followed up with her dreamy synth pop EP Mermanity in 2020.
Her upcoming album is a testament to the artist creating her own path, and exhibits her songwriting and lyrical writing abilities that seem to have blossomed with the opportunity to create with such talented individuals this time around.
